WebHaste v0.5.0 introduces Lists (static sites, meet “database-ish” content)

Static sites are fast, cheap to host, and hard to break. But they’ve always had one annoying limitation: there wasn't a good way to manage and display repeating, structured content.
Think blog indexes, staff directories, location lists, resource libraries… the stuff that feels like it should live in a database table.
In WebHaste v0.5.0, we’re fixing that with a revolutionary new feature called Lists.
Lists: The idea
A WebHaste List is a small, admin-managed set of entries you define once and reuse anywhere.
You pick the fields. You enter the data in one screen. WebHaste stores it as JSON. Then you drop a List block onto any page and WebHaste renders it as sorted, automatically repeating markup — with optional pagination.
In other words: it’s a lightweight database for a single list, rendered completely client-side, without turning your site into a database-driven app.
What you can build with Lists
- A paginated blog index
- A staff directory, including images
- A directory of company locations
- A resources / links page
- Any repeating set of entries you want to manage in one place
And because the output is plain markup with pre-determined classes, you can style it with your own CSS (Bootstrap, Tailwind, or your own framework).
How to create a List
- Click ⚙️ Site Admin in the toolbar, then 🗂️ Lists
- Click + New List
- Give it a name (optionally start from the Blog Posts or Link List template)
- Under Fields, add your fields and choose a type:
- Text
- Date
- Link
- Image
- Under Settings, optionally enable pagination, set entries-per-page, and choose a sort field
- Under Entries, add your items (one row per entry) and reorder with the ↑/↓ buttons
- Click Save
You can come back to the same dialog any time to add, edit, reorder, or delete entries.
How to place a List on a page
Put your cursor where you want the list to appear, click 🧩 Blocks, and choose one of two placement styles:
- List: Links
- A simple bulleted list (great for blog indexes and resource lists)
- The field you set as Link becomes the destination
- Every other field value (and an Image field, if present) becomes the clickable text
- List: Directory
- A grid of cards (great for staff directories and locations)
- Every field is displayed with its label
- A Link field becomes a real button-style link
- An Image field becomes a real image
After inserting the block, click its 🗂️ toolbar button and select which List it should display.
That’s the only “connection” step — and it means you can reuse the same block type on multiple pages, each pointed at a different List.
Pagination (simple, SEO-safe)
When pagination is on, entries page through right in the visitor’s browser.
There IS a URL you can link to for "page 2," etc in your lists's results, but ther is not a separate page to manage — it's all done automatically, and your sitemap.xml already covers the real pages that link into the list.
